Cake-spiration!
By Katy Huffman, Kids First Party Palooza and Special Events Department Leader
Okay, so as parents we all know how popular Frozen has been these last few months. But I am here to say, when it comes to birthday cakes, it is time to “Let it go!”
I see a lot of birthday cakes on the weekends here at Kids First and you guys have inspired me! Here are some themes I have seen that maybe you hadn’t thought about, but could really capture your child’s personality and imagination!
For Girls:
Rainbow/ Hearts
Butterflies
Shoes
Horses
Ballerinas
Fairies
For Boys:
Fishing
Tractors
Legos
Dinosaurs
Space Ship/ Robots
Bull Dozer
For Both:
Animals

Camping
Gumball Machine
Cheeseburger
Olympics
Holiday
If you are skilled in the baking area, I found these awesome challenges.
How about a piñata cake with candy hidden inside?

or for the brave,
letting your child design their own cake with food coloring markers

AND for those techy types
how about projecting an image or video onto your cake? Disney can do it, so can you!

Not into cake? I have seen Hostess Twinkies turned into awesome looking Minions, sugar cookies with the child’s age written on them, rice krispie treats, and even glazed doughnuts stacked up with a candle on top!
Last, but not least, if you do the bakery route (like I do), be sure to make your instructions clear to the bakery. One of my favorite stories is one of a graduation picture cake that ended up with a cat made of icing on top the graduate’s head instead of a cap. See the picture here. Still makes me smile.

Have fun out there and don’t forget the ice cream!
