Watching
Day: The last week of Every Term
For the sake of the kids, we invite the parents on deck only the last week of
every term (and the first day of your child's Starfish experience, if necessary).
Why?:
- Our pool is
a classroom and a classroom requires 100% attention from all involved.
In an indoor pool environment, even soft voices echo causing commotion
which is difficult to teach over. For instance, our teaching technique
includes whispering calming instructions to a child while learning
to float something that is impossible with commotion. Even parent-child
eye contact causes breaks in concentration.
- When confronted
with fearful situations, children tend to collapse emotionally
in the presence of their parents. As hard as it is to accept, children
generally fare better in stressful situations when parents are
not available as a crutch.
- Siblings on
deck are a source of commotion as well as a safety hazard requiring
teachers to devote part of their attention to 'life guarding' the
siblings.

Parental
Advisory...
Our small ratios
exist for one reason to provide an excellent swim experience for
your child. However these small classes mean classes fill up VERY
quickly. Sooo...that means it is very important to honor the Priority
Due Date and pay on time. Sorry, we will not alter our ratios for
those whose payment arrives late.
Drownings can and do occur in and around water. Parents, please be safe and
resist the natural impulse to place your child into a 'higher' group. If your
child is 'on the fence' between two Starfish Levels, or if you are unsure of
your child's water competency, please place your child in the LOWER Starfish
Level. This wise approach will not hinder your child's progress nor the opportunity
to progress through the Starfish Levels, as our small groups allow for individual
attention. Not honoring this philosophy can be dangerous, traumatic to your
child, and disruptive to the teacher, making teaching very difficult.
The minimum age to be in a group is 28 months, as determined by the child's
age on the FIRST CLASS OF THE TERM. Children turning 28 months mid-term should
register for Just You & Me Kid classes. Why?: simple...for safety of the
kids. |
