GIRLS GYM JAM
1st Grade & Up
Encourage growth. Teach gymnastics.
Welcome to Gym Jam!
Our Gym Jam Program has been a leader in gymnastics for girls in 1st grade through teens. For over three decades, Gym Jam coaches have taken the incredible sport of gymnastics and broken it into challenging and achievable steps for kids of all levels.
Progressive Lesson Plans
Each class is specifically designed to blend progressive skills and drills within the four disciplines of women's gymnastics: bars, beam, floor, and vault. Our groups are designated by age, and each child is challenged within their group according to their ability: 1st-2nd grade, 3rd-4th grade, 5th grade and up.
Recreational Competitive Option
As a Gym Jam student progresses in class, an instructor may recommend a more competitive option. This is for students who are interested in more training time, challenge, and attention to technique and detail. Our Recreational Competitive Program begins with Power Jammers and requires an assessment by the Gym Jam Department Leader. Each Gym Jam coach will consistently assess the progress of each student and will recommend a Power Jammer evaluation to those who demonstrate readiness.

Department Leader
Ben Wissel
Ben Wissel is a dedicated gymnastics coach and educator with a career spanning nearly two decades in youth development. He began his journey at Kids First Sports Center in 2005, initially working in the aquatics department before transitioning to gymnastics coaching at the encouragement of leadership. During his early tenure at Kids First, Ben contributed to the growth of the Tumble Bees program and developed foundational coaching skills that would shape his career.
After 18 months, Ben left Kids First to pursue new opportunities, earning a degree in elementary education, getting married, and starting a family. His passion for gymnastics was rekindled when his daughter expressed interest in the sport. This led Ben to coach at the YMCA, where he quickly advanced to the role of Assistant Director. At the Y, he collaborated with colleagues to revamp the preschool gymnastics curriculum and launch a progressive Ninja program with a competitive team.
Ben reconnected with Kids First, eager to return to a supportive and athlete-centered environment. He has now completed his seventh season coaching gymnastics, where he is known for fostering inclusivity and supporting athletes at every level, from first-time participants to those representing Team Ohio at the Region 5 Championships.
Ben is passionate about creating a positive, accommodating environment for all athletes and takes pride in being part of a program that nurtures the growth and development of athletes into happy, healthy, responsible adults.
