Tricking

Classes take place in the Main Gym

Length: 1 hour 5 minutes

Ages: 6 years and up

Cost: $151

Learn skills that combine elements from gymnastics, karate, dance, parkour, and cheer. This would include tricks and flips you would see in movies and fun things like wall flips, tricks with props, and combination skills.

Heavy emphasis is placed on kicks, twists, and flips with a solid foundation in parkour. We start with parkour as a foundation because parkour teaches students to move efficiently and safely in a variety of settings.

How is it different from Gymnastics?

Tricking does not have set routines for athletes to follow. Instead students are trained to look at the equipment they have and build their own sequences from the ground up.

Tricking is also great for students who may not enjoy the rigidity and focus on fundamentals that gymnastics provides. Instead it has looser skill requirements (while always maintaining safety) and gives students the freedom to decide which skills they want to put in their combinations.

Benefits of Tricking Classes

Tricking has historically taken place outside of gym facilities. This typically meant that trickers had to preform and learn skills at playgrounds, over concrete, or in other areas where they did not have access to the mats or equipment Kids First has.

The added benefit on working on Tricking inside a gym is the ability to learn how to be safe outside of the facility as well. A large piece of our curriculum is built around teaching athletes how to be safe and this can carry over to being safe when there are no mats around.

Students will also have an experienced coach with them at every class in order to help them through the progressions and show them how to safely perform skills.

Along with gaining confidence in their skills, Tricking is a great way to keep kids in shape and get their heart-rate up. They will gain overall strength, endurance, confidence, and bravery through our program founded in the Kids First values.

Famous Trickers: Ray Park, Michelle C Smith, Steve Tarada, MacKenzie Emory, Dominique Lewis
