GIRLS GYMNASTICS COMPETITIVE TEAMS

Queen City Gymnastics boasts countless records and the one QCG is most proud of is our record of longevity and consistency. In the 2024 season the QCG Girls Competitive Team had an impressive 66 Individual State Champions,100% qualification to 7-10 Regionals and an impressive 100% qualification to level 9 Eastern Nationals and level 10 Developmental Nationals! Of course, just as important as individual champions and team titles are college scholarships and the number of scholarship athletes from the QC girls competitive team now totals over 50.

Our coaching crew is unique in the gymnastics world. Selected for their technical expertise and genuine love of children, you will not find better coaches anywhere in any sport. Saying it another way, if you are concerned about the character of the people who mentor your children, QCG is the clear best choice for your kids.

Athletes train in a 42,000 sqft (over one acre!) gymnastics training center, the largest in the nation and perhaps the world. In addition to the apparatus and mats you can see, an effort to provide for your child’s safety goes far beyond what meets the eye and includes: six in-ground trampolines; 8 in-ground dismount pits; as well as 10,000 springs powering our 6-1/2 floor exercise floors! Ask any ‘veteran’ QCG Team parent who has had a chance to visit other USA gyms and they will confirm, you will not find a facility anywhere that even comes close to QCG!

QUEEN CITY GYMNASTICS' TAKE ON

XCEL VS DEVELOPMENTAL

  • HOW WE USE THE XCEL PROGRAM WITH THE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (DP)

You might have heard of the Xcel Program. Maybe you've always thought that it was meant for less competitive gymnasts who didn't make the cut for the Developmental Program. Not only is that NOT THE CASE, but there is an argument to be made for Xcel and the potential benefits that could result from the way the program is structured.

We are a competitive program that combines Xcel and DP programs in order to give us results that we believe produces the most able-bodied, highly competitive gymnasts.

  • WHAT EXACTLY IS XCEL?

The Xcel Program is a national USA Gymnastics program that runs alongside the DP Program. It is a completely separate program altogether.

  • DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM (DP)

The Developmental Program (DP) consists of Levels 1-10. Levels 1-5 are compulsory levels, meaning for these particular levels, each gymnast must compete the same dance routine and required skills for the level. There is no flexibility in the requirements.

Level 6 and 7 are an introduction to optionals where there is more flexibility-- such as you get your own dance routines, but a handful of skills on each event are still required and must be constructed into the routines.
Beyond level 7, there are just categories of skills and particular moves that are required, allowing for way more flexibility. The coach can now tailor the routines to their liking and to the skill level of the gymnast. You must compete for mobility purposes in Levels 4,5,7,8 and 9 to score out.

  • XCEL PROGRAM

In Xcel, the levels include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.

In each Xcel level, the skill requirements are much more broad. This allows for broad routine construction as well -- For example, a Gold level athlete can have a routine that mixes level 4 skills with level 6 skills. Why is this a good thing? Read below.

  • WHY XCEL?

At QCG, we use Xcel to take a very smart skill developmental appraoch.

Select Xcel allows gymnasts who are progressing faster in some areas to continue progress at this quick pace while working the other events skills that may take more time to develop. The coaches focus on the skill development that is important to produce high level gymnasts, but this system also allows skill choices that can be tailored to each athletes specific needs.

XCEL ALLOWS YOU TO AVOID COMPULSORY LEVELS BUT YOU STILL NEED TO MOVE THROUGH THE DP PROGRAM FOR MOBILITY.

OUR COACHES

Stacy Moore

Girls Competitive Team Department Leader
STACY MOORE

Stacy Moore has been with Kids First since 2014. Born in Connecticut, Stacy relocated to Florida in 1990 and was part of Region 8 Gymnastics community for nearly 25 years. She spent numerous years both coaching and judging gymnastics. She joined the Queen City Gymnastics family when she relocated to the Cincinnati area with her husband and two children.

Stacy has a love for developing the whole child through the sport of gymnastics. Whether it is inspiring the beginner level competitor or accompanying athletes to national meets, Stacy enjoys the entire process.

“I love the positive environment and teaching philosophy here at Kids First and Queen City Gymnastics. We truly put the athlete first and coach much more than gymnastics. When kids flourish under a coaching staff that develops the athlete mentally, physically, and emotionally, it is very rewarding to see the girls develop into the confident leaders we believe they can become.”

Heather Zumberge-Powalski

Select Xcel Department Leader
SADIE O'HARA

We are so excited for Kids First and especially the QCG coaches, parents and athletes to have Sadie moving into this leadership role. Sadie grew up in Kids First with both of her parents being team coaches and department leaders. She began volunteering for Kids First at age 13 and working in Tumble Bees in 2015. Sadie joined the QCG coaching staff during her senior year of high school and completed her QCG journey as a gymnast herself as the Level 9 Regional Bar Champion and State Champion on both Floor and Bars. Since becoming part of the Queen City Gymnastics coaching staff in 2019, the program has exploded with success. Sadie has been a strong leader, exemplifies the qualities of a KF stellar employee and has taken on Department Leader type responsibilities since our return from Covid in May 2020. Sadie has had the opportunity to lead the Select Xcel Program and assist in mentoring new coaches, lesson planning, parent meetings and produce some great gymnasts along the way handling all of her duties with grace and confidence. Sadie said, "I'm most excited about getting to lead the program through every opportunity. With each struggle and success, I'll get to be there every step of the way for the coaches and athletes to grow."
